THE EMPLOYERS' EDGE
AODA Update: Ontario Government recently publishes Integrated Accessibility Standards Guidelines that will impact Ontario Workplaces
The Ontario Government has recently released its “Guide to the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulations” (“IAS”) in July of 2012. The IAS standard has been passed as a regulation under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 on July 1, 2011, and will affect nearly all employers in Ontario that have at least one employee. The Guide provides well-needed assistance to employers and organizations in achieving compliance with the employment, information and communication, transportation and general standards contained under the IAS regulation.
Another useful resource available for employers is the online “Compliance Wizard” tool released by the Ministry of Community and Social Services. It assists organizations by creating a personalized schedule of the IAS Regulation requirements and compliance deadlines once specific information from the organization has been submitted online.
For further information related to the requirements of the IAS regulation, please refer to our blog published on November 17, 2011, “Is your Workplace Ready for AODA?”.
The lawyers at CCP will also be offering seminars in the Fall of this year to assist your organization in achieving compliance with the IAS employment standards. Information regarding these seminars will be posted on our website shortly. Please stay tuned!
